In the Philippines, small business owners often run their shops alone or with just a few staff. So when they need a quick break and there’s no one to cover, they improvise — using brooms, umbrellas, “slippery when wet” signs, or anything long enough to wedge between the door handles.
It’s an unspoken sign that everyone instantly gets: the shop’s on a break.
KitKat, a brand all about taking breaks, saw a way to join this everyday habit. We created the KitKat Break Bar — a simple wooden bar that looks like a KitKat finger, designed to slot between door handles. A small, playful way for storeowners and store staff to signal it’s time for a well-deserved break.
